When one speaks of physical pain here, one refers to any evidence of discomfort, from the mild to the excruciating: turmoil, from the individual to the societal. By inner conflict, one speaks of emotional disturbance, traumatic memory, recent or remote. One may inflict the aforementioned, not necessarily consciously, so as to play saviour to it, thus ‘catharsising’ it ‘externally’. The release is of course predictably temporary, adequate closure not being achieved. So on and on it goes, and at every turn, one denies one hurts, is hurting. It is you that hurts…
