The Sacred Idea

January 2018

Nothing is more precious, more baffling, more awesome than the creation of an original idea by the human mind. The mind creates ideas in real time, can adapt with lightning speed, can interpret the subtle nuances of unspoken human language. At its most sacred, the human mind is sentient. Can we say the same of a machine that mimics the human mind? Can a machine be better than its creator? Can it hope to out-gun the archetypal mind? Will it make humans lose their minds, be out of their minds in a manufactured, illusory reality? Can we expect an increase in human psychopathology with the age of the ‘thinking’ machine?
